Welcome and thank you for your interest in the University of Connecticut Psychiatry Residency Program at ECHN.

Our residents train at an institution that values diversity, equity, and inclusion, and it reflects in our policies and processes. Our residents will train in diverse clinical setting under a supervising faculty. They will serve individuals with a wide range of psychiatric disorders. Our residents will develop a deep understanding of different therapeutic modalities, based on the individual biopsychosocial formulation of patients. We believe that strong knowledge of psychotherapeutic modalities is also in understanding of the patient and providing evidence-based care. Residents will work towards progressive autonomy and independence in their training experience. Structured didactics help in strengthening knowledge of psychiatry. We want to stimulate scholarly interest  and support our residents in their endeavors to be leaders in the field of psychiatry.

We value the importance of emotional and physical wellbeing of our trainees. Our Psychiatry Residency Program is a small family where we closely interact with each other through regular meetings, retreats, and holiday events. Faculty mentors will collaborate with residents on their personal and professional growth.

Below are the criteria for our Psychiatry Program application.

• USMLE Step 1 and USMLE Step 2 CK > 225
• DO candidates must have passed COMLEX Level 1 and 2 (Score >450)
• YOG < 4 years. For the year of graduation longer than 4 years, the candidate needs to have home country residency, impressive clinical experience in psychiatry or scholarly experience in psychiatry
• U.S. clinical experience is preferred
• Three letters of recommendation are required
• We will not offer H1 or accept ECFMG-sponsored J1 visa for 2025-26 match cycle
• No attempts on COMLEX or USMLE exams
