Family Medicine Residency Program

The mission of the ECHN Family Medicine Residency Program is to train outstanding, capable, conscientious full spectrum family physicians through innovative and evidence based educational curriculum in a patient centered medical home. The residents we train will be leaders in their community providing care to underserved patients throughout New England.

Welcome to Eastern Connecticut Health Network!

Our mission is to provide the best educational environment and experience to prepare residents to be highly skilled family physicians to better serve our community.

Throughout their training at the ECHN Family Medicine Residency Program, our residents are given extensive learning opportunities in both inpatient and outpatient medicine, preparing them to practice the full spectrum of family medicine after graduation. In addition to strengthening their clinical skills our residents participate in research, along with leadership and committee roles, within our training program and throughout the entire ECHN organization.

We are proud to have a talented, motivated and compassionate group of residents, staff and faculty who will make your time here feel like home. We are enthusiastic about the future of Family Medicine and see the need for family physicians to fill the role as medical leaders in the communities they serve at both the local and national level.

Our Residents
Our skilled and dedicated residents carry the pride of our specialty and work side-by-side with physicians from other specialties sharing skills, experiences and mutual respect. Our residents are important role models for our medical students.

Our Staff
The nursing and support staff of the residency clinic provide skilled and dedicated service to keep our organizations running smoothly, and provide important educational experiences for our residents.

Our Facilities
ECHN’s Manchester Memorial hospital is a teaching hospital. We are dedicated to excellence in patient care, medical education, innovation and care of the underserved. Our residency enjoys the company of some of the most skilled and dedicated health professionals. Family medicine is a respected and central component to health care delivery in Manchester, making this an ideal place to train and pursue a career in family medicine.

Our Location
Manchester is a vibrant, culturally rich and comfortable city, 15 minutes to Hartford. We are driving distance to Boston and NYC which makes us a central location and Connecticut’s beauty and recreational opportunities are vast.

Curriculum

PG1

13 blocks, each 4 weeks:

Colon & Rectal Surgery: 1 block
Elective: 1 block
Emergency Medicine: 1 block
Family Medicine Outpatient: 1 1/2 block
Gynecology: 1/2 block
ICU: 1 block
Inpatient Medicine: 2 blocks
NICU: 1 block
Night Float: 1 block
Obstetrics: 1 block
Pediatrics: 1 block (Longitudinal Rotation over two years)
Psychiatry: 1 block
Includes 1/2 day per week of Family Medicine Continuity Clinic
Includes 1/2 day per week of Pediatric Continuity

PG2

13 blocks, each 4 weeks:

Community Medicine: 1 block
Elective: 2 blocks
Emergency Medicine: 1 block
Family Medicine Outpatient: 2 1/2 blocks
Geriatrics: 1 block
Inpatient Medicine: 2 blocks
IP Pediatric Medicine (CCMC): 1 block
Maternity Care Clinic: 1/2 block
Night Float: 1 block
Obstetrics: 1 block
Includes 1 1/2 full days per week of Family Medicine Continuity Clinic
Includes 1/2 day per week of Pediatric Continuity

PG3

13 blocks, each 4 weeks:

Elective: 3 blocks
Family Medicine Outpatient: 3 blocks
Gynecology: 1 block
Inpatient Medicine: 1 1/2 blocks
Inpatient Medicine Backup: 1 block
Night Float: 1/2 block
Orthopedics: 1 block
Pediatrics Emergency Medicine (CCMC): 1 block
Practice Management: 1/2 block
Radiology: 1/2 block
Includes 2 full days per week of Family Medicine Continuity Clinic
